What
areas can be treated?
Virtually any part of your body with sun and age spots or freckles can
be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders, and arms are the most
popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most
sun exposure. Both discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles
respond well to treatment.
What
do treatments feel like?
When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable.
When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief pinching
sensation.
How
long will the treatment take?
The actual treatment will only take a few minutes. And, since there
is no need to apply gel or any topical anesthetic, your total appointment
time can easily fit into your lunch hour.
How
many treatments will I need?
Usually, one to three treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results.
This depends a lot on the size and darkness of the sun and age spots
being treated. Most of the time, the treated spots will show significant
improvement after three weeks. However, some people notice the optimal
effect six weeks later.

What
happens after the treatment and are there any side effects?
Rarely, blistering or scabbing can occur. If this happens, do not scratch
open the area. Keep the area clean and apply an over the counter antibiotic
ointment like Neosporin. When treated correctly, the area will usually
heal without scarring. Any dark hair in the area of treatment may be
reduced or removed as a result of the treatment. If this is of concern,
notify your laser specialist before treatment and that area will be
avoided. Once the skin heals, it may be especially sensitive to the
sun for up to one month. During the healing process, the skin may become
lighter or darker in color compared to the surrounding skin. This is
usually temporary but may be permanent. Skin infection or scarring is
also possible, although rare, whenever a skin procedure is performed.
Tylenol can help with any post therapy discomfort. Many people have
no discomfort following the procedure. You can go about your normal
activities right away after treatment. It is important to wear a sunscreen
on any skin exposed to the sun to minimize the chance of sunburn/sun
damage. You may apply makeup immediately after treatment if you desire.
Will
the spots reappear over time?
Sun spots that were removed will not reappear over time. Treatment cannot
prevent new sun and age spots from occurring. The liberal use of sunscreen
when outdoors to minimize sun damage is your only defense. Other pigmented
lesions, birthmarks and moles do not respond to our treatment. Dermatologist
or plastic surgeon can assist you with these concerns.
Laser is not recommended for people who have had skin cancer, who are
currently pregnant, or people who use medications that make their skin
highly sensitive
to light. |
