Pain
During Intercourse
When a woman feels pain while having sexual intercourse, it is called
dyspareunia. Painful sex is fairly common. Nearly 2 out of 3 women have
it at some time during their lives. The pain can range from very mild
to severe. For more information call our office.
Ovarian
Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a disease that affects one or both ovaries's, the
two organs on either side of the uterus. If cancer of the ovary is found
and treated early, the cure rate is good. Patients whose cancer has
not spread outside the ovary have an 85-95% chance of living 5 years
or longer after treatment.
Uterine
Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign (not cancer) growths in the uterus. They
are the most common type of growth found in a woman's pelvis. They occur
in about 20-25% of all women. Many women who have fibroids are not aware
of them because the growths can remain small and not cause problems
because of their size, number, and location. Like any growth, fibroids
can cause heavier bleeding and pain and that is why they should be checked.
Urinary
Tract Infections
About one of every five women will have a urinary tract infection (UTI)
during her life. Some women will have more than one or get them often.
Most UTI's are not serious. They are easy to treat with antibiotics.
Symptoms are relieved quickly. It is important to supply us with a urine
sample, so we are able to know what to treat. Also if you have 3 or
more UTI's, we often refer you to a urologist for
further evaluation.
Urinary
Incontinence
Many women leak small amounts of urine at times. This can occur with
certain movements, during pregnancy, or during other stress, such as
coughing. Some women lose urine when they hear the sound of running
water or when their hands are in water. Others find that they fell the
urge to urinate and are not able to control it. When leakage of urine
becomes frequent or severe enough to become a problem, it is called
urinary incontinence.
Evaluating
Infertility
Many couples that want a child are not able to do so. About 15% of couples
in the United States are infertile. Couples may be infertile if they
have not been able to conceive after 12 months of having sex without
the use of birth control. If you and your partner are trying to have
a child and can't, you may want to have an infertility evaluation. Tests
can be done to find the cause of the problem. Based on the results of
these tests, treatment may be needed.
Polycystic
Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder that results from abnormal
levels of certain hormones. Women with PCOS may have irregular or no
menstrual periods. PCOS can cause health problems in women, but it can
be treated.
Fibrocystic
Breast Changes
Women with fibrocystic breast changes have lumpy, tender breasts. These
changes most often occur near the time of a woman's period. Fibrocystic
breasts changes are not a disease and they do not increase our risk
of cancer. However, if you feel a lump, it should be checked.
Premenstrual
Syndrome
Many women go through changes in the days or weeks before menstruation.
When these changes cause certain problems that affect a woman's normal
life, they are known as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). As many as 85%
of women who menstruate report some symptoms of PMS. Although the cause
of PMS is unknown, it can be treated to some degree in most women.
Vaginitis
Vaginitis
is an inflammation of a woman's vagina. As many as one third of women
will have symptoms of vaginitis sometime during their lives. Vaginitis
affects women of all ages. There are many possible causes, and the type
of treatment depends on the cause. We are often able to diagnose you right
in
the office.
